R4 Incorporated Honored with New Jersey Small Business Award

Harford County Executive David R. Craig recognized R4's commitment by stating, "We are extremely pleased that R4 Incorporated has chosen to relocate to Harford County. R4 has been an early partner in the BRAC transition to APG/Edgewood and we welcome CEO Scott Crockett and President Dave Lewis and the whole R4 team as new and valued members to our business community."

This new facility augments R4's support currently underway in Iraq by enabling engineers and technicians the ability to develop, field and support new and innovative technologies in the counter-IED arena. R4 will utilize cutting-edge equipment and facilities including four low-boy access doors, oversized ramps and has secure facilities to support our customers. The work performed at the facility will include system integration, reverse engineering, form-fit-function, prototyping, vehicle mounts and transit casings as well as complete installations. Additionally, these capabilities allow R4 to bring battlefield problems and requirements to nearby APG/Edgewood where solutions can be developed for rapid deployment to soldiers in the field.

Approximately 50 employees, including R4's executive officers, engineers and support staff, will be located at the newly constructed, 21,000 square-foot facility located in the Edgewood Lakeside development. It will also serve as R4's corporate headquarters, enabling direct oversight of the company's key programs related to their in-theater support activities.

R4 provides quick-reaction, rapid-response training support to legacy, interim and future systems that help their primary customers—our military service men and women. In just three years the company has expanded from a 4-person organization to 65 employees, and from 1 facility in Eatontown to 19 locations around the country and overseas.

"R4 is completely motivated by the needs of the soldier, and we pride ourselves on walking side-by-side with our customers," said R4 President David Lewis. "We provide a hands-on link between technology and the warfighter. Our employees are actually embedded with soldiers in the battlefield in order to understand their challenges and needs. This in-theater approach is where we beta-test all products with our customers until they precisely meet the needs of our soldiers."

R4 has a unique business model: Most of the 65 R4 employees are former soldiers who have lived the soldier's life. Employees of R4 pride themselves on being able to speak the soldier's language, and, as such, are able to train the soldiers on the battlefield by having a natural affinity to convert "geek speak" into "soldier speak."

"Customers and soldiers rely on R4 because we provide a crucial hands-on link between technology and the warfighter, bringing the most relevant and much needed products to our soldiers on the battlefield," Lewis said. "Our mission is soldier survivability, so the R4 philosophy of ‘when they need it, where they need it, we'll be there' is more than just a saying to us. We say it because we mean it and we say it because we lived it."

R4 will assist PM IED/PF in their mission to provide IED defeat systems that will help analyze, detect and neutralize the IED threat.

"The R4 card mission is soldier survivability, so we are anxious to work with the Army to identify and locate IED defeat products that will help our forces meet the unfamiliar challenges posed by today's emerging security environment," said R4 President David Lewis. "As legendary General George S. Patton once said, ‘Only a soldier and their enemies understand the capability of a soldier'. R4 remains committed to keeping our soldiers safe and doing everything possible to stay steps ahead of our enemies.
