1.Download Kernel and Game

By using TF card reader, connect the TF card with computer, open the memu.

a. Upload game kernel: Copy the R4.DAT file to your TF card..

b. Upload video kernel: Copy the Moonshl2 to your TF card.

c. Upload DIY Interface function: Copy the R4iMenu to your TF card .

2.Copy games

By using TF card reader, connect the TF card with computer, copy the downloaded games to TF card. (If needed, corresponding menu can be set up)

3.Main menu operation

Make sure microSD card with Kernel is inserted in R4i NDSI, then insert R4 NDSI in NDS SLOT-1 port, start the machine and enter main menu interface. By pressing buttons (right and left) or touching screens, you may choose the games or media function, press A to the relative function.

In Game Interface, press L to adjust 4-level brightness.

In Game Interface, it's on top screen showing game messages including four items: game, cheat, setting and ROM, while it's on bottom screen showing game name, file size and current game category. Press "UP" and "DOWN" to check current page easily, and press "LEFT" and "RIGHT" to turn over the page, on the top line of bottom screen, it is showed with current file and total file qties, while on bottom line of the bottom screen the path of the category.

Press X or B, enter four items in the top screens: game, cheat, setting and ROM.

Enter cheat item, it's showed in the bottom screee Current game name, cheat function setting, cheat function switch, timely reminding window and file saving. Touch Cheat off/Cheat on to run the cheat function, and touch file saving to save the file.

Enter Setting item, it's showed in the bottom screen there languages: English, Simplified Chinese and Japanese, touch file saving to save the relevant file.

Enter ROM item, it's showed in the top bottom screen cheat, DMA, software start functions, touch the relevant file to save the file. When the Soft-Reset function is ON during game, "L+R+A+B+X+Y" kdy combination can be pressed to return R4-II menu.. Don't save during soft reset, otherwise "archive lost" will be led. It is recommended to return game main menu and then soft reset. If Soft-Reset can not be operated or the Game is impacted, please turn off the soft-reset function.

5.Game Operation

Choose your expected game in the game menu, press A or touch the screen to play games.

In the first operation, it will remind " file is effected"

The updated date of the files will be automatically revised while playing the games each time, the updated files could be easily found by checking the latest date revision.

The names of the files are the same as which of the games, expanded name is SAV. Which can be copied to computer at any moment.

6.Cheat Operation

Choose the games, enter Cheat by pressing B or X.

Game Title is showed in the top screen, while it shows in the bottom screen reminding window, Cheat off/Cheat on, file saving, current Cheat items. Choose your expected Cheat item by pressing "up" and "down", and open or close the item by pressing A or touching the screen. Touch "Cheat on/Cheat off" to operate the Cheat, and touch the screen to save the file.

While the Cheat is running, you may choose the cheat code one by one by pressing "up" and "down", and close the cheat code by pressing "A". Under Cheat Code Category, press A to open/close the category. You can delete the cheat.dat file in R4iMenu category if the cheat function is not required.

Cheat database updates: Download the newest cheat database and copy usrcheat.dat file to R4iMenu category.

7.Skin change method

Four files are alternative in the R4iMenu/Skin category: they are TScreen.bmp, BottomInit.bmp, TScreen.bmp and BottomScreen.bmp, which are the operation interface of R4, content in the pictures can be changed at random.

R4 Clone Family Tree

Confused by how many R4 Card there are? Worried about fakes and clones? Read on to understand what's out there and why there are so many cards to explore.

It shouldn't be breaking news that there are loads of flash cards on the market of varying degrees of quality and “originality”, some with very complex relationships. There are clones of clones of copies, and keeping track of their history is important to some. For usability the main concern is a proven history of developer reliability. For example, the popular R4i SDHC is a clone of the DSTT but has a robust feature set and dependable updates.

Please note that while some of the cards we carry at our shop are known clones, they are well supported by professional teams of developers that are dedicated to updating their cards. A clone doesn’t necessarily mean a bad and unreliable card, but there are many deliberately confusing labels. Still, packaging is often used to distinguish between cards from different manufacturers. The R4 SDHC (beige box) comes from the manufacture of the R4i SDHC (red box), and they differ from the team that makes the first R4 SDHC (black box). A bad fake can mean instability or infrequent updates, but to date there has only been one card that’s been known to cause harm to your DS console. The N5 card had a flaw in the design that caused a short and a blown fuse after so many insertions of the Micro SD card.

Initial developers got started as early as the Gameboy Advanced and kept it up with crude slot 2 (bottom GBA slot on the DS and DS Lite) flash cards for the original DS console. Acknowledgement should be given to those teams and discontinued slot 2 cards for laying the groundwork. Some of them are still at work today, including the Supercard team. Since then there have been a lot of migration of developers adding to the confusion of who was making which card.

More advanced slot-1 cards came into development as Slot-2 cards fell out of disfavor, and the R4 Revolution card quickly rose to the top in popularity. The R4 v2 is an upgrade mainly in the removal of the spring-clip SDHC slot. The R4 team and the M3 team are closely related, if not the same team, and the M3DS Simply was a rebranded R4v2 with new firmware, as opposed to an unlicensed clone card. The M3DS Real is a legitimate upgrade and not a clone of the M3DS Simply. The iTouch series comes from the M3 Team, designed as an entry level to their family of cards. The M3i SDHC and the M3i Upgrade are fakes that are NOT from the M3 Team and should not be relied upon.

There have been more clones and rebranding of the R4 line than any other card. While bearing the same name as R4, various manufacturers have no affiliation to the original R4 team and develop their own card families and software. There are four main distinct manufacturers who produce an “R4” card. The original R4 team is defunct, then there are the makers of the first R4 SDHC, the people who make the R4i SDHC (red box) started with a clone of the DSTT and they also make the R4i Gold, the R4 Ultra team is less popular but still prevalent, and to add to the confusion, the M3 team developed their own R4i RTS (white box).

Cards from other teams were in development at the time or soon after the R4DS. They are original technologies in their own right and not clones of other cards; the DSTT, the EZFlash V, the Acekard, the Supercard DSONE, and the CycloDS Evolution. The Supercard team claims that the CycloDS card is a clone of theirs but this claim has not been substantiated. It is generally considered that the CycloDS is superior to the Supercard DSONE, and proved so valued (if expensive) that it spawned the immensely popular Edge card as a clone.

How Nintendo took on the world And won

The latest version of Nintendo's handheld console has hit the shops in the UK and Europe. But should you buy one.As first reported in The Times in February, Nintendo's new DSi handheld console launched in the UK and Europe on Friday, April 3. The new console builds on the success of the R4 Card DS brand by adding a host of multimedia functions.

For the moment, the DSi is available in black or white. The white is shiny and sleek to the touch, the matt black has a slightly rougher finish, which makes it more pleasingly tactile.

Owners of the existing DS Lite may be momentarily thrown by the changes to the volume and power buttons, but otherwise the DSi is pretty much business as usual. So, should you buy one? Here are ten facts that may help influence your decision.

1. The DSi is the third revision of the DS console, the biggest selling games console yet made, with global sales of over 100 million, 9 million of these in the UK alone.

2. Although it looks remarkably similar to the existing DS Lite, the DSi represents a bigger jump forward than that from the chunky original DS to the DS Lite. The new machine is slimmer, with slightly bigger screens and a faster processor, and is packed with new features.

3. New feature one: the DSi has its own built-in operating system, modelled on the Wii system. The OS is stored on the DSi's built-in memory. One of the practical upshots of this is that games are now "hot-swappable", meaning you no longer need to power off and on your console when changing game cartridges.

4. New feature two: the DSi comes with two low-resolution cameras, one facing inwards and one outwards. The cameras are complemented by a built-in application that allows you to distort the photos you take for humorous effect. They can also be used for video-chatting.

5. New feature three: the DSi comes with an SD card slot, where photos, music and digital media can be stored. Don't get too excited by the music playback. The DSi only plays AAC files, not the more popular MP3. Why? Read our interview with Nintendo's UK boss to find out.

6. New feature four: if you want to play your old Gameboy Advance games, forget it. There is no longer a slot at the front. This is also bad news for fans of Guitar Hero, which uses the slot for its fretboard.

7. New feature five: the DSiWare store, modelled on the Wii store, will offer games for download in exchange for Nintendo points. A web browser will be offered for free.

8. New feature six: the improved internet connectivity means that the DSi firmware can be updated by Nintendo. This is bad news for game pirates, who are thought to have cost the company millions in lost revenue by making DS games available for download on to cards such as the notorious R4. The DSi will not recognise an R4 card.

9. In its native Japan, the DSi sells for around 20,000 yen. One year ago, when the pound was worth 200 yen, this would have suggested a UK price of ￡100. Now the pound is worth 139 yen, which has bumped up the UK price to ￡149. Ouch.

10. Nintendo has opted for a quiet launch for the DSi, perhaps in recognition of the fact that no DSi-only games exist yet, and the DSiWare store is poorly stocked. Still, the company reports pre-orders for the console at ten times the level of the DS Lite.

Four years ago, many observers thought that Nintendo was dead and buried. Then the company staged a remarkable comeback with its DS and Wii consoles.

It's almost like the storyline of a videogame. The one-time champion, brought low by a powerful new rival, finally rediscovers his strength and stages a dazzling comeback.

Yet that's exactly what has happened to Nintendo in the past three years. Having helped to create the videogames industry in the 1980s, the company's name was synonymous with games - but that was little consolation when it spent ten years on the fringes of the industry, outclassed and outgunned by Sony's PlayStation.

Once, Nintendo was firmly in command of both the home console and handheld markets - but it lost out to the PlayStation in the home console category, allowing Sony to press its advantage into the handheld sector. When Sony announced the PlayStation Portable in 2003, Nintendo's share price promptly collapsed, analysts and shareholders alike fearing that the ship was finally sinking.

With the benefit of hindsight, it's clear just how severely the business world underestimated Nintendo. Today, its most recent handheld console, the DS, is on the verge of selling 100 million units - twice as many as Sony's PSP. In the home console market, too, Nintendo is back at the helm. The Wii is approaching 50 million units sold, while rivals Sony and Microsoft struggle to reach the 30 million mark.

Both the DS and the Wii have achieved something that the videogames industry has talked about longingly for years - true crossover into the mass market. Nintendo's consoles have not found success by selling to boys and men in their twenties and thirties. Instead they have carved out a new market - young girls, middle-aged women, pensioners, businessmen and everything in between.

The number of people playing videogames has skyrocketed in recent years, as people who have no interest in shooting aliens or crashing cars discover the new breadth of experiences and possibilities which the Wii and DS have introduced.

It would be easy to characterise this success as a stroke of luck. Certainly, Nintendo hedged its bets; company president Satoru Iwata admitted to me in 2005 that the development and launch of the Wii would cost only 10 per cent of the firm's cash reserves. Unlike Sony or Microsoft, for whom the failure of a console launch would be catastrophic, Iwata wasn't prepared to "bet the farm" on the Wii or the DS - if they failed, the company would simply go back to the drawing board.

In some markets, such as Japan, the DS has now probably reached a peak. The DSi, far from being revolutionary, is simply Nintendo cementing its position in the market. But despite this, the most exciting times for the console are yet to come. The growth of gaming is strong enough that even a deep recession will leave it unbowed - and huge markets such as India and China remain untapped. With component costs for the R4 DS already low and continuing to fall, those emerging markets will become attractive fairly soon - giving Nintendo billions more consumers with whom to repeat its gaming miracle.

Rethink for R4's Thought

The head of religion and ethics at the BBC regards Thought for the Day as bland and its contributors as occasionally platitudinous.

Alan Bookbinder says that they are to be told to sharpen up their act for the two-and-a-half-minute slot, on BBC Radio R4's Today programme. More Muslims and women will be invited to contribute.

Broadcasters will continue to be from religious faiths. Mr Bookbinder so far has resisted pressure to bring in atheists and fellow agnostics. In an interview with the BBC staff magazine Ariel, Mr Bookbinder discloses his reasons for putting Thought for the Day under review by Christine Morgan, its executive producer.

"On the whole, we go for contributors who are tolerant, civilised and fairly conciliatory . . . we need to make sure that what they say is clear, sharp and well defined. At the moment, we sometimes get platitudes," he said.

Non-believers will still not be allowed a look-in. "I don't want to dilute Thought for the Day's religious perspective," he said, adding: "In my view, to have a religious oasis in the middle of three hours of politics and secular concerns is well justified."

One of the difficulties facing contributors is that they must be pedagogic but cannot proselytise.

Thought for the Day is a platform coveted by religious leaders and commentators. The Archbishop of Canterbury-designate, Dr Rowan Williams, spoke recently, opposing military action against Iraq.

Online piracy has ravaged the music business and now it's about to do the same to the games industry, thanks to a device the size of a thumbnail. Once known only to hackers, the R4 Revolution is currently the fifth biggest-selling electronics item on Amazon's UK web store - priced at ￡12.57 including a 2GB memory card.

It is marketed as a legitimate device that enables gamers to store copies of Nintendo games they have already bought for their portable DS console, negating the need to carry cumbersome cartridges around. However, as some gamers have discovered, the device also stores games downloaded direct from the internet. This means that rather than paying ￡20 for a game, they can download it free from filesharing sites.

In the past these illegally downloaded games wouldn't play back on a DS console because of inbuilt copy protection software. The R4 circumvents this, leading to a freeloader frenzy as gamers rush to buy the device then load it up with free games.

The scale of the problem has forced Nintendo to act. Last month it launched a lawsuit in Japan against importers and marketers of "game-copying devices such as the R4 Revolution". Nintendo also said it is working closely with authorities in 11 countries - including the UK.

The problem is that the device itself is not illegal. "It's the purposes that people use it for that's often illegal," says Rob Saunders, a spokesman for Nintendo UK. "When you fill a memory card with hundreds of downloaded games - that's theft."

Exactly how Nintendo intends to wage its war on piracy in the UK is unclear. Will it follow the music industry's lead and press internet service providers to freeze the accounts of file sharers – or even mount private prosecutions, as the British record industry has done? Nintendo says it has asked Amazon to stop selling the device, but last week there was no sign of this, with R4 cards still selling well. If the music industry experience is anything to go by, the signs for Nintendo - and other gaming companies - are ominous.

The R4 chip is only small - but it looks like a giant pirate to Nintendo

The R4 cards look like a simple piece of plastic. It is just a couple of centimetres square, a few millimetres thick and unbelievably easy to use. For Nintendo it is the Christmas stocking filler from hell.

Made in China, available for sale over the internet and now doing a roaring trade on the streets of Tokyo, the R4 has emerged as perhaps the ultimate video game piracy tool.

Costing a little more than ￡20, the device is a virtually unlimited passport to illegally downloaded software titles for the Nintendo DS – the handheld games console that has taken Japan, and much of the world, by storm.

In the Akihabara electronics district of Tokyo, where the R4 has just gone on sale, the product is ubiquitous but deliberately shrouded in mystery.

Many stores advertise that they have the R4 in stock and describe sales as "very strong" but refuse to say what it actually does, for fear of potentially dire legal consequences.

"New R4 shipment has finally arrived! You know what it does! Absolutely no questions will be answered concerning this product . . ." reads the sign outside one electronics store just off the main Akihabara drag. "Guaranteed for one week only! Of course we can't explain what the R4 will do . . ." reads another in the store next door.

Other shops in the area are visibly nervous about it because it falls into what they refer to as a "grey zone" – the product itself is not illegal – but nearly everything that a customer would do with it probably is.

A floor manager at Iosys told The Times that the store was considering pulling out of sales following complaints; high street electronics shops refuse to stock it because it is legally questionable and damages sales of legitimate games software.

In the hands of the 35 million DS users around the world the R4 chip has the potential to deal a heavy financial blow to Nintendo and to the dozens of software developers that make games for the machine. Nintendo is Japan's third most valuable listed company with a stock market value of more than $85 billion (￡41 billion) and revenues of $7.8 billion in 2006.

The R4's function is simple: it is a direct conduit for illegal game downloads and other unofficial software. Built to fit into the DS's existing game cartridge slot, the R4 will transfer on to the console anything saved on a removable flash memory chip.

Most DS games appear on the internet and are ready for downloading within a few days of the legitimate version going on sale. Vidoes on youtube. com offer first-time users of the R4 an easy-to-follow tutorial in making the device work. Salesmen even quietly suggest visiting youtube.com rather than attempting to decipher its Chinese instructions.

As an experiment The Times obtained an R4 chip and downloaded free of charge on the internet ten new Nintendo DS games – worth about ￡400. The games, one of which had gone on sale only the day before, worked perfectly. The entire process took less than half an hour.

The R4 is not the first time that China has exported the means of games piracy to the outside world. Games software is heavily pirated and available throughout Asia. However, the R4, said one industry analyst, takes games piracy into a new level.

Beyond the purchase of the device, the user never has to go to stores to buy pirated software. "The R4 gives ordinary users the ability to sit at home and just browse the internet for any game that takes their fancy. A few clicks of the mouse and it is theirs free. Unlike previous piracy tools, the technology is not intimidating," he said.

"We are keeping a close eye on the products and studying them. But we cannot smash all of them," a Nintendo spokesman said. Some believe the R4 may have the same disruptive effect on Nintendo's business model as early music file-sharing sites such as Napster had on the record industry.

Testing the law

— Legal action by the recording industry the music file-sharing site Napster.com into bankdruptcy in 2002. It has now been rebranded as subscription service Napster 2.0

— The iTrip clips on to an MP3 player to transmit music via an FM radio signal. Popular with drivers, the tool was legal to buy but illegal to use, until Ofcom bowed to pressure and legalised it last year.

Additionally, these capabilities allow R4 to bring battlefield problems and requirements to nearby APG/Edgewood where solutions can be developed for rapid deployment to soldiers in the field.

Approximately 50 employees, including R4's executive officers, engineers and support staff, will be located at the newly constructed, 21,000 square-foot facility located in the Edgewood Lakeside development. It will also serve as R4's corporate headquarters, enabling direct oversight of the company's key programs related to their in-theater support activities.

R4 provides quick-reaction, rapid-response training support to legacy, interim and future systems that help their primary customers—our military service men and women. In just three years the company has expanded from a 4-person organization to 65 employees, and from 1 facility in Eatontown to 19 locations around the country and overseas.

This program involves initiatives to improve timely reporting sharing of Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) information visibility on the battlefield. His highest military education is the Air War College completed at The Pentagon. Vince is located stateside at the R4 Proposal Center in the Atlanta suburb of Fayetteville, Georgia; and OCONUS he will be located at multiple locations in the Middle East.

R4 DS Review

The R4 DS is basically another slot 1 flash kit for homebrew and game backups (aka NDS ROMs).It is a new product made by a previously unknown team. Maybe they have been operating under other name previously but not to my knowledge.

What is good about the R4 DS – you can run homebrew and ROMs, listen to music, watch videos etc. without any additional software. Just drag and drop whatever you want onto your MicroSD card, place it in the R4DS and here you go.

Packaging and R4 cart

R4DS is delivered in a white cardboard box wrapped in another box. First impression of package is not so good as today the flash kits are sold in tin or wooden boxes, such as CycloDS. But the contents of the package will definitely please you, because the package includes R4 DS cart, replacement shell, small size CD-ROM (with installation instructions available in English and Chinese + five firmwares with different skins), Micro SD USB card reader, Dual DS card case. This all makes a quite a nice package with free accessories. Some of the freebies are sort of non-essential, however nice to receive.

The cart is made of good quality plastic and fits perfectly into the console. The cart is not bumped by any chips sticking out under the label or anything – the quality is noticeable and cover is smooth and it looks like a genuine Nintendo flash card, you really wouldn't tell from first glance. The Micro SD slot can be spring loaded which is a good thing. There is also a small groove that allows you to remove only the Micro SD instead of removing the R4DS from the console which is convenient.

R4 DS Installation

Installation is very easy. Everything you need is in the manual CD, however I would suggest visiting their website first because the manual on CD is not their best product.

Connect the USB reader to computer, format the SD card to FAT, choose the firmware skin and drag the folder onto your SD card. Once everything is formatted, you can drag and drop clean ROMs. As easy as it sounds. Plus the R4DS has the Moonshell which means you can watch movies, listen to MP3 files, view pictures and more. Also there is no need to update the Rom list as R4DS detects the save type automatically.

R4DS GUI

GUI automatically starts when you switch on the console. You will see a pop up of the loading screen and then the main menu. Next you will see 3 basic icons:

• Boot Slot-2

Game:

Game basically is all files on your SD card. Select the .NDS file you want to play and press "select". Unfortunately you cannot use the touch screen when going through the file directory, which is a bit annoying. On the bottom screen you will always see a ROM with the title and its developer. Go ahead and load the ROM and you will be presented with a save-game option. ROMs will load within the seconds. Have fun!

Multimedia

Multimedia offers you the Moonshell. It has already been described so many times I will not go into detail. If you still do not know Moonshell, google it. Moonshell will allow you to watch videos, listen to music etc. There are also additional options, such as Reset.mse, change back light, L/R lock and other.

Boot Slot 2

Boot Slot 2 provides an option to boot slot 2 cards from the R4DS interface. This PassMe option was tested with several slot 2 flash kits and it worked perfectly.

The R4 Cards are enabling the use of writable media on the Nintendo DS. This leads to piracy but also brings new opportunities to the system. This article looks at the concerns and opportunities brought by the R4DS.

The R4DS is an adaptor to connect a Nintendo DS to a flash memory card. It's very easy to use and unlocks a lot of potential for the handheld console. Despite this, it's one accessory Nintendo fears appearing on Christmas wish lists.

Nintendo DSi / DSi XL R4 cards storage devices are some of the devices used to store a licensed developer's work-in-progress images, homebrew video games, or downloaded commercial games.

Different brands of R4 DS Card differ in their support for homebrew, support for DS and Game Boy Advance ROMs, special features, such as playing media files, physical size and cost. Strictly speaking, a storage device is not necessary for DS with FlashMe installed because homebrew can be sent to the DSi using WMB. However, this is not a very portable method because the DSi needs to be within range of a suitable Wi-Fi card.

DSTT & DSTTi

DSTT is a very popular card compatible with SDHC cards.

The most common problem with a legit DSTT card is the infamous "Menu?" screen, much like the dreaded R4 "Loading" screen, which is usually a software issue and can be easily fixed by installing the software from the DSTT website onto your micro SD card. Although the OS (menu) files must be present in the root of the SD card, the software is intelligent in that the ROMs may be placed anywhere on the flash card will still be found. The DSTT also exists in a version compatible with the recently released Nintendo DSi which is called the DSTTi.

The DSTT and DSTTi are versatile beyond simply playing homebrew and ROM software though, one of the most useful features being that they incorporate cheat support in a variety of games.

The DSTTi has been tested and reported to work with the DSi XL console released in March 2010.

R4i, R4i Gold Cards

R4DS (Revolution for DS), YushenDS Card (YDC) and M3DS Simply are essentially the same hardware product. The same method is used to distinguish between Chinese, English and Japanese (and German for the YDC) versions of the cards. The firmware for the various brand and language versions can be readily patched to work on other language or brand versions of the hardware.

The original R4 card was replaced in late 2007 by the "R4 version 2" or "R4v2". This new version removed the need for a spring mechanism to insert a Micro-SD card. Instead, it simply had a slot in the back where a user could manually slot a Micro-SD card in. This eliminated the problems of the original R4 Revolution DS Card where the spring mechanism reportedly malfunctioned after prolonged use.

Unlike newer cards, the R4 cannot read SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) cards due to hardware limitations, although certain clones add this functionality. There exist several clones of the R4 card that are capable of using SDHC cards, but some studies have suggested that certain types of these cards have high failure rates. One clone, named the "R4 SDHC", is reported to be reliable. R4DS is now known to be outdated, as many other flashcarts are known to be better and cheaper (Acekard 2, M3 Real Supercard One, and Edge), and a genuine R4DS is hard to find.

If however you are not loing to upgrade your DS console, and have the older model - then the R4 DS Flash Card will work just fine.

R4 DS V3 - Two different versions of the R4 Card

There's a lot of talk online about the R4 DS Cards and the different models and versions that have become available, in this article we'll cover the R4 DS V3. Truth be known there's really only 2 different versions of the R4 Card as many of the others are simply clones and copies of the original R4 Cards. Except that this "new" R4 DS V3 card is not an official card. It's an attempt by a factory to make their own copy of the R4 DS Card seem like the newest version.

As we've stated since the start, you should only ever purchase an official version - one that received the highest level of support and firmware updates. The R4i SDHC Card for the Nintendo DS / DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL - Regardless of which NDS you have today, you can use this card on all versions of the Nintendo DS. If you think you'll be upgrading sometime in the future from your NDS or DS lite to the new DSi, then this would be the card for you.

The original R4 Cards - the one that supports MicroSDHC Cards up to 32Gbyte and works on all Nintendo DS, and the Nintendo DS Lite consoles. This unit will not work on the new DSi or DSi XL systems - and since the R4i SDHC Was released to cover those models - there are no plans to provide any compatibility for the DSi or DSi XL for this version. However, if you have a DS or DS Lite - then this means some savings for you - as the R4 SDHC Card is less expensive than it's R4i versions.

One of my earliest recollections of a great platfrom game came in the form of a knock off of Indiana Jones type main character. Undoubltly based right on the hero himself made renowned by the movies. It was none other than Core Designs Rick Dangerous. It was one of the many reasons - and games - that I had such a love for my old Miggy 500. So much so that I ended up purchasing another Amiga 500 on Ebay years and years after selling my original.

Rick Dangerous is a platform game developed by Core Design for the Amiga, Atari ST, and 8-Bit computers, as well as for DOS based PCs. It was released in 1989 and published by Rainbird Software in Europe and the rest of the world, and on the MicroPlay label (part of MicroProse) in America. subsequently it was released with two other games - Stunt Car Racer and Microprose Soccer on the Commodore 64 Powerplay 64 cartridge. The game is largely based on the Indiana Jones movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. Set in 1945, British agent Rick Dangerous travels to the Amazon jungle to search for the lost Goolu tribe. His plane crashes down and Rick Dangerous is in the jungle, only to realize he is not alone and must now escape from the clutches of the angy Goolu's. When the game starts Rick finds himself in a cave running from a rolling boulder, a famous scene from the Indiana Jones movie.

Armed with a pistol and dynamite, Rick must fight hostiles and evade countless traps in 3 more levels. The second level is set inside a pyramid in Egypt. In level three, Rick must venture to the Nazi stronghold of Schwarzendumpf castle to rescue captured Allied soldiers. The rescued soldiers tell him that the Nazis are planning a missile attack on London. consequently, in the last level Rick must infiltrate their secret missile base.

The original garnered fantastic reviews. Many magazines giving the game 92% or more in the reviews. And I am certain of the R4 DS card version / homebrew version for the Nintendo DS / DSi were ever released commercially, it would garner the same type of reviews, for both its retro look and feel and amazing gameplay. The really amazing thing about this is that it is not a commercial release, and that this free homebrew version has the blessing of the original developers as well.
